Pelle Bongo Program
Cacao Oro has started a strategic partnership with Pelle Bongo to facilitate the distribution of their innovative harvesting tool. This tool serves as a viable alternative to traditional machetes, offering cocoa farmers a safer, cleaner, and more efficient means of opening ripe cocoa pods and extracting the seeds, effectively separating them from the surrounding connective material. This process facilitates more comprehensive and effective fermentation of the seeds, thereby preserving and enhancing the flavor attributes crucial to chocolate production.
The Pelle Bongo Project’s mission is to design, manufacture, market, and distribute a unique, purpose-built manual tool aimed at transforming the way cacao farmers and harvesters worldwide approach their craft.
Our goal is to support the founder of Pelle Bongo in distributing this tool across the region and to collaborate with Corus International and Cacao Móvil in training producers to use the tool for harvesting cacao beans with unparalleled ease, efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.
Improving Cacao Harvesting: The project introduces an innovative solution that revolutionizes cacao harvesting. This tool not only simplifies the process but also enhances productivity, efficiency, and safety for each harvester, enabling them to open cacao pods and collect the beans in a single smooth motion.
Enhancing Cacao Quality: Understanding the importance of cacao fermentation in developing exquisite chocolate flavors, Pelle Bongo significantly improves this critical production stage, thus raising the farmer’s product quality. The result is a dry cacao product that tastes better, is safer, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly.
Commitment to Sustainability: Pelle Bongo is built on a foundation of sustainability, using high-quality materials to ensure durability while keeping costs low. This allows for solid business decisions at every distribution stage. The collaborative commitment goes beyond economic aspects, supporting environmental, social, cultural, and governmental initiatives that promote sustainable cacao production, including rainforest preservation and farmer training to improve their well-being.
Empowering Cacao Communities: A strategic alliance between Corus International, Cacao Oro, Cacao Movil, and Pelle Bongo has strengthened the capacity to bring this tool to regional farmers. Thanks to this collaboration, training can be offered through Cacao-Movil, ensuring all cacao producers have access to this revolutionary tool.
Ethical Business Practices: The Pelle Bongo Project adheres to fair and ethical business practices at all levels of production, distribution, and sales. The commitment is to build a transparent and robust value chain that ensures the tool’s long-term availability for farmers, with the ultimate goal of uplifting cacao farmers and harvesters globally. By improving cacao fermentation and product quality, the project aims to increase incomes and enhance the national yields of cacao-exporting countries while advocating for environmentally friendly agricultural practices in tropical rainforest settings.
